General Statement of Intent
June 1, 2020
SmartyPantsKitchen.com is committed to accessibility. It is my policy to ensure that all persons, including those with disabilities, have full and equal access to my website and digital offerings.
I am continuously improving the accessibility of this site for those with disabilities. If you find I am not meeting your requirements, please let me know by sending me a message at [email protected]
I am in the lengthy process of making every effort this site is easily accessible to all.
Despite efforts to make all pages and content fully accessible, some content has not yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This is an ongoing, lengthy process which requires a great deal of time and resources, many of which are third-party resources and beyond my immediate control. Identifying, researching and studying technological resources takes time and many times, third-party vendors are slow to act.
Areas of Focus
My goal is to achieve “Level AA” conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA, PDF/Universal Accessibility (PDF/UA) by December 2020.
Specifically, these are the areas of focus, in no particular order:
Alt text: I am in the process of updating the alt text/alt tags for every image on the website so each has a meaningful description. If you have problems reading the photos please send me a message at [email protected]
Navigation: Ensure the website is navigable without the use of a mouse and by keyboard only
Video: Videos include closed captioning and text transcription for all video/audio
Contrast: Ensure text to background ratio meets 4:5:1
Navigation: a skip navigation link is provided on all web pages
Predictability: Web page formats are consistent and predictable throughout the site
Third-Parties: any integration or links with third-parties are websites that meet WCAG 2.0 AA standards
Star ratings: Star rating accessibility via the keyboard has been updated, but the functionality is still in progress. The third-party recipe card developer is aware of this and working to make the rating system valid through the keyboard.
How I Plan to Meet WCAG 2.0 AA Standards
- The above measures are being taken as an on-going process by me, based on:
- Continual and ongoing research
- Consultations with ADA specialists
- Consultations with third-party vendors (theme developers, recipe card developers, site speed auditors)
- Enrollment in highly recommended industry ADA organizations in order to learn more
