Cut bacon into small pieces and place in a large stockpot on medium high heat; cook until crisp

Add diced onion to stockpot and cook 5-7 minutes or until tender; add garlic and cook 1 minute
½ cup finely diced sweet yellow onion, ½ teaspoon minced garlic
Add chicken broth to stockpot and scrape up any bacon residue in the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon

Add lima beans, onion powder and sugar; bring to boil for 5 minutes
16 ounces frozen baby lima beans, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
Reduce heat to medium, cover and cook 30-40 minutes until beans are tender
Add salt and pepper to taste; serve using slotted spoon

It is not necessary to pre-soak frozen baby lima beansAfter you cook the bacon, you can remove the crisp bacon pieces from the stockpot and use as a garnish, or just leave the bacon pieces in the stockpot.Chicken broth - 1 ½ - 2 cups: you want the broth to cover the beans by about 1"inch; so, the amount of broth will be determined by the diameter of the stockpot you use.Sugar - why?
