Hoppin' John is a Southern black-eyed pea dish that is served on New Year's!

The peas represent prosperity in the New Year!

Simple Ingredients


Black-eyed peas




Bell pepper

Chicken broth

Garlic powder

Salt & Pepper

Cook chopped bacon till crispy

Remove bacon with slotted spoon Drain on paper towel

Add chopped onion, celery and bell pepper to stockpot

Add black-eyed peas to stockpot Saute 5-minutes

Add chicken broth and seasonings

Simmer til peas are tender

Make rice and cornbread while peas are cooking

Serve and Enjoy!
