Parmesan Peppered Peas

Parmesan Peppered Peas are the perfect quick and easy green side dish! Even if you dislike green peas, I think you’ll enjoy this recipe. Try it!

Parmesan Peppered Peas

This is a spin-off of Ina Garten’s recipe, only I add a lot of ground black pepper and a dash of lemon. There’s no added salt to the Peppered Parmesan Peas because the cheese is salty enough.

You’ll love this recipe!

  • Not your Mother’s Peas..remember when you’d have to sit at the table until you finished your peas? These are not anything like those peas of your childhood!
  • Nice texture and flavor – the quick boil method allows for the peas to be nice and firm–not soggy–and the combination of pepper, Parm and lemon is heavenly!
  • Simple ingredients – frozen peas, black pepper, Parmesan cheese and a dash of lemon! That’s it!

Here’s what you need:

A bag of frozen peas, butter, black pepper, Parmesan cheese and a dash of lemon juice!

How to make it:

Frozen sweet peas work best in this recipe. Simply rinse and drain them before placing them in the boiling water.

Bring 3 cups of water to a rolling boil; add peas and lemon juice; cook for 5 minutes; drain; add generous amounts of black pepper and shredded Parmesan cheese.

My experiments with canned sweet peas did not yield a very tasty, nor appealing version of this recipe.

Frozen sweet peas work best because they retain their shape and flavor.

Serving suggestions:

This is a great side dish to serve when nobody will eat (or wants) broccoli, Brussels sprouts or Southern Greens.

Serve Parmesan Peppered Peas with Beef Tips and Gravy, Smothered Steak or Smoked Paprika Chicken!
