Baked beans are quick and easy to make, these need to be on your “go-to” list for your next picnic, barbecue or pot luck! Just add a few seasonings and spices to a can of navy beans, bake them till bubbly, and then watch your guests devour them! The addition of bell pepper and onion gives a little kick to the sweet barbecue sauce. I’m not kidding, these baked beans have a personality of their own!!!
You might like them with a Hot Pastrami Sandwich or along side a plate of Foolproof Ribs! They also go well with pork-ham or pork chops…
Sweet, tangy, spicy baked beans go perfect with your Easter ham or barbecue!
- 4 15 oz. cans navy beans rinsed and drained
- 2 cups sweet yellow onion chopped
- 2 large green bell peppers chopped
- 2 T dry mustard
- 2 cups barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
Preheat oven to 350

Depending upon your preference, these baked beans can be tangy, sweet or spicy. For a sweeter flavor, use a sweet-based barbecue sauce and only 1 tablespoon of dried mustard. For a more tangy flavor, use an "original-flavored" barbecue sauce and add 3 tablespoons of dried mustard. To increase the heat or spice of the recipe, add 1 tablespoon of white ground pepper.
